By the time people call me, they have usually tried everyone else.

Full time at my studio in Inverness, inside Deb's Touch of Paradise. Established clients also have me in their own home when they need it — and if a doctor sent you, they get a written note afterwards.

New clients are seen at the studio first — it is a public location and you get to meet me. 3589 E Gulf to Lake Hwy, inside Deb's Touch of Paradise. The button opens my booking page in a new tab — if it gives you any trouble, call me and I will put you in the book myself.

How it goes

An hour and a half of your afternoon, start to finish.

  1. Before the day

    The phone call

We talk first — what hurts, how long it has been going on, what you have already tried, and whether anything makes it worse. If a doctor is involved I want their name. If massage is the wrong answer for what you are describing, I will tell you that on the phone rather than after you have paid me.

And I will ask when you would like to come in. New clients are seen at my studio in Inverness — a public, established location, and the right first meeting. If I am coming to you instead, which is what my regular clients use, I like to know the address, the parking and how to get in before I set out — I work on my own, and some corners of this county are a long way from the others. If where you are changes the price, I will say so then and not afterwards.

You will know who is coming: I confirm the appointment by text, and I text again when I am on my way — to the studio, or to your house if you are one of my regulars I see at home.

  2. −0:20

Twenty minutes before you lie down

I like to keep it quiet. Table, bolster, fresh linens, table warmer — about ten minutes of setting up so the room is ready when you are.

    What is in the room

    • Professional table, or I work on your bed or recliner at home
    • Laundered linens, changed between every client
    • Bolster, table warmer, oils and cups
    • A seated chair setup if lying down is not an option

    What you need

    • Nothing — no sheets, no towels, no preparation
    • Parking at the studio when you come to Inverness
    • Nowhere to drive afterwards, at the studio or at home

You stay covered the whole time. Only what I am working on is uncovered, and it is covered again before I move on. You do not have to ask me about this.

  3. 0:00

The first ten minutes — where it hurts

I ask, and then I actually wait for the answer. We find the thing, agree on the pressure, and I check in as the work gets deeper. "Tell me if it is too much" is not a formality — say the word and it changes that second.

  4. 0:10

    The work

Eleven years of it, in Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage, cupping, hot stone, manual lymphatic drainage and seated chair massage. Which of those you get depends on what we found in the first ten minutes, not on what you booked.

    • Swedish massage
    • Deep tissue
    • Sports massage
    • Cupping
    • Hot stone
    • Manual lymphatic drainage
    • Seated chair massage
  5. 1:00

    What your doctor gets

If a doctor sent you, they get a written note after every session — what I found, what I worked, what changed since last time, and what I would do next. It works better when everyone is reading the same page.

What a progress note looks like

Session 3 of 6 · 60 min · deep tissue & myofascial, cervical and upper thoracic

Regions worked: cervical, upper thoracic, right shoulder girdle. Cervical rotation measured at intake and again at close. Upper trapezius tone noted bilaterally; right levator attachment still guarding.

Pressure tolerance moderate, no adverse response. Plan for next session: continue cervical work, begin scalene release if tolerance holds.

Illustrative example showing the format only. Not a real client, and no real client's notes appear on this website.

  6. 1:10

    Nothing to buy

I tell you what I found and what I would do next. If you do not need to come back for a while, I will say so. Then I fold the table away, and you are done. Drink some water — and if anything feels off tomorrow, call me. I would rather hear from you than not.

If you have been told to live with it

A lot of the people I see have been carrying the same problem for years and have already tried everyone else. Most of my week is people I have been seeing for years. What I can tell you is that I keep looking for the cause instead of rubbing the place that hurts, and I do not get bored of your problem.

If you cannot get onto a table

Bed-bound clients. Post-surgical recovery, once your surgeon has cleared you — including gentle lymphatic technique when that is what they have asked for. Hip and knee replacements. Wheelchair users. People for whom getting dressed and driving to Ocala is the reason they stopped going.

None of this is a special accommodation I make. It is a regular part of my week, and it is a large part of why I work this way.

If your doctor sent you

I work to the plan your doctor set rather than to a standard menu.

If you were in a car accident

Whiplash and soft-tissue recovery, once your doctor has cleared you. Florida PIP will not pay for massage — there is a question below explaining what that means for you.

Chronic pain and the work that caused it

Necks, shoulders and low backs belonging to people who have stood, lifted or driven for a living. Headaches with referred pain. Restricted range of motion.

If you have overdone it

Sports massage and cupping for overuse — the shoulders and knees of people who still work, still garden, and still get out on the water.

Not sure I can work on you? Pick the one that fits.

I can get on a massage table

Then that is what we will use. It is set up in the room and ready when you arrive — and at home, for my regulars, it is set up and gone again within the hour. Nothing for you to arrange.

Only my own bed

That is fine and it is common. I work alongside the bed and adapt the positioning to you — pillows under the knees, side-lying if lying flat is not comfortable. A hospital bed is easier for me, not harder.

My recliner

Good. Neck, shoulders, arms, hands, feet and lower legs all work well in a recliner, and for a lot of people that is where the pain actually is.

I use a wheelchair

We can work in the chair, or transfer to a bed or table if you transfer easily and want to. Tell me which on the phone and I will bring what suits.

A kitchen chair is all I have

That is all I need. I bring a proper seated setup — you stay fully clothed, and it is the same work through the neck, shoulders and back.

I am asking on behalf of someone else

Call me rather than booking online. I will want to know what they can and cannot do, whether there is a hospital bed, and who will be there. You are welcome to stay in the room.

More on the work itself: Deep tissue · After surgery · Neck & shoulders · Sciatica & low back · Feet & plantar fasciitis · Frozen shoulder · Arthritis & stiffness · After a car accident · If you cannot get out · If you are the carer · Cupping · Hot stone · Sports massage · Swedish massage · Chair massage · Headaches · Hip & knee replacement · Never had one

Still not sure? PHONE and describe the room. It takes two minutes and costs nothing.

The person you are letting in

The reason I do this at all.

I am a mother and a grandmother. Before I ever touched a massage table I was a hospice caregiver, sitting with people through the worst weeks of their lives.

One of them had been in bed a long time and in more pain than anybody should have to be in, and there was nothing any of us could do about it. I had no training and no business putting my hands on her. I did it because I could not stand to do nothing.

That hour changed what I thought I was for. I went and got licensed while I was still working and raising my children, and I have not done anything else since.

A lot of what walks through my door has been walking around for a long time. Ten years of a shoulder. Twenty of a low back. People who have been to the physical therapist and the specialist and the person after that, and been told somewhere along the way to learn to live with it.

I will take the time to find out what is actually going on, and I will keep at it. Some of what I see took twenty years to build and it does not come apart in an hour. If I am not the right person to help you, I will say so, and I will tell you who is.

And if money is getting in the way, say so before you stop coming. I would rather have that conversation than lose someone over it.

Questions people actually ask

Where do I meet you?

At 3589 E Gulf to Lake Hwy in Inverness — inside Deb's Touch of Paradise Massage, where I am full time. New clients are seen there first: it is a public, established location, and it is the right place to find out whether we are a good fit before anything else.

Can I book in-home massage?

Established clients book in-home visits anywhere in Citrus County, on whatever day suits — I fit them around the studio. New clients are seen at the studio first, and once you have been seen there at least once we can talk about in-home visits for you.

If you work in my home, how much room do you need?

About seven feet by ten, and one power outlet. A cleared living room floor is plenty and I have worked in far less. If you are not sure, send me a photo of the room and I will tell you before you book.

What if I cannot get onto a massage table?

Then we do not use one. I work on beds, in recliners, in wheelchairs and in an ordinary kitchen chair. Bed-bound and post-surgical clients are a regular part of my week, not an exception I make.

Can I book this for my mother, or for someone I care for?

Yes, and it happens often. Call me rather than using the booking page — I will want to know what she can and cannot do, whether there is a hospital bed, and who will be there. You are welcome to stay in the room.

Do you charge extra for in-home visits?

In-home visits start at $125 for an hour and $149 for ninety minutes, the same for either kind of session. Some of the county is a long way from the rest of it, so if where you are affects the price I will tell you before you book rather than after. Tell me the address when we talk — Inverness, Hernando, Beverly Hills, Lecanto, Crystal River, Homosassa, everywhere between.

How far ahead do I need to book?

The booking page takes appointments from 24 hours out. If you want something sooner than that, call me — if the slot is free it is yours, and the online cut-off is a limit of the software rather than a rule of mine.

Do you take tips?

Yes, and thank you. They are never expected and they are never added to anything — the price you are quoted is the price.

Does my car accident insurance pay for this?

Not in Florida. Section 627.736(1)(a)5 removed massage therapy from PIP medical benefits, effective January 2013, and it cannot be billed to PIP by any massage therapist. If you are represented, your attorney can send me a letter of protection and I bill the settlement instead.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No. Most people book directly. If your doctor has prescribed massage, I work to their plan and send them a written note after each session.

Is deep tissue supposed to hurt?

No. I work inside your comfort threshold and the pressure changes the moment you say so. Gritting your teeth through an hour is not something I ask anyone to do.
