For the person doing the lifting

If you are looking after somebody, you already know what it has done to your back. You have probably also worked out that you cannot get out for two hours to do anything about it.

Full time at the studio — 3589 E Gulf to Lake Hwy, Inverness, inside Deb's Touch of Paradise Massage. In-home visits as needed for established clients. New clients are seen at the studio first. Florida licence MA78217.

You do not have to leave

Once you are an established client, I can come to your house instead, and caregivers are the people that suits best. You stay where you are needed. If you have to get up mid-session, you get up mid-session and we carry on afterwards.

What caring for someone does to a body

Low backs, shoulders, necks and forearms, mostly — from transfers, from leaning over a bed at the wrong height, from carrying, and from never quite putting anything down. It is a particular pattern and I see it often enough to recognise it quickly.

If I am already coming to the house

Say so when you call. If I am there for the person you look after, we can talk about whether the timing works for you as well, and I will tell you what it costs before anything is booked.

How it goes, for this

  1. Before

You do not have to arrange cover

I come to the house and you stay in it. If you need to stop and go to them, we stop.

  2. The hour

    Backs, shoulders, forearms

The transfer pattern. I see it often enough to find it quickly, which means less of your hour spent looking.

  3. After

    You are already home

Which on the sort of week you are having is most of the point.

Not sure I can work on you? Pick the one that fits.

I can get on a massage table

Then that is what we will use. It is set up and ready in the room — and at home, for my regulars, it goes up and goes away within the hour. Nothing for you to arrange.

Only my own bed

That is fine and it is common. I work alongside the bed and adapt the positioning to you — pillows under the knees, side-lying if lying flat is not comfortable. A hospital bed is easier for me, not harder.

My recliner

Good. Neck, shoulders, arms, hands, feet and lower legs all work well in a recliner, and for a lot of people that is where the pain actually is.

I use a wheelchair

We can work in the chair, or transfer to a bed or table if you transfer easily and want to. Tell me which on the phone and I will bring what suits.

A kitchen chair is all I have

That is all I need. I bring a proper seated setup — you stay fully clothed, and it is the same work through the neck, shoulders and back.

I am asking on behalf of someone else

Call me rather than booking online. I will want to know what they can and cannot do, whether there is a hospital bed, and who will be there. If they have a guardian, a healthcare surrogate or a power of attorney, tell me who holds it. You are welcome to stay in the room.

Still not sure? PHONE and describe the room. It takes two minutes and costs nothing.

Questions

I cannot be away from them for an hour.

You do not have to be. I come to the house and you stay in it. If you need to stop and go to them, we stop.

Can you see both of us on the same visit?

Call me and we will work out whether the timing suits and what it comes to. I would rather tell you the figure on the phone than have you guess.

I have never had a massage before.

Then tell me that at the start. You keep on whatever clothing you want to keep on, you can stop at any point without giving a reason, and nothing is going to happen that we have not talked about first.
