Low backs, and the leg pain that comes with them

A low back that has been complaining for years and a leg that has started joining in are usually the same conversation.

There are a few things worth checking first

Where I actually work

Rarely only the spot you point at. The glutes, the deep hip rotators, the QL, the hamstring attachments and the way you have been standing since it started — those are usually doing more of the talking than the place that aches.

If sitting is what makes it worse, we work you side-lying rather than face-down, and I will not have you getting up and down off a table more than once.

What I am not

I am not diagnosing anything. Sciatic-type pain can come from muscle, from a disc, from a joint, or from something that needs imaging, and telling those apart is a doctor's job, not mine. If you have not had it looked at and it has been going on, get it looked at.

Questions

Will one session fix it?

I do not know, and I am not going to promise you it will. Some of what I see took years to build and it does not come apart in an hour. After the first session I will tell you what I found and whether I think this is the right approach for you.

Can I lie face down?

If you can, we will. If you cannot, we work on your side with pillows, or in a recliner. I have never needed someone to be flat on their stomach to do useful work on a low back.

I am on blood thinners. Is that a problem?

It changes how I work rather than whether I work. Tell me on the phone. Same for a clotting history, recent surgery, or anything you are being treated for.
